The Chinmaya Vishwavidyapeeth, the University for Sanskrit and Indian Knowledge Traditions, recently established by the Chinmaya Mission, is a gem on the crown of Indian Knowledge Traditions. A vision and prophecy that Gurudev Swami Chinmayananda, saint, philosopher and teacher par excellence, expressed 26 years ago, has come to fructification, in the very birth centenary year (2015-16) of the great Master. The Chinmaya University is founded on the principles of spirituality, purity, applicability and innovation, indeed a rock-solid foundation for a man-making education leading to the betterment of humanity. The uniqueness of the Chinmaya University is its commitment to bridge the ancient Indian knowledge Traditions and contemporary knowledge fields, a vision enabling students in India and Overseas to become positive contributors to the society and world at large. The university integrates the best practices of modern pedagogical advances with the beauty of traditional Gurukula model of learning, fulfilling the vision of Swami Chinmayananda of bridging East and West, Past and Present and blending Science with Spirituality and Technology with Tradition.
The various programmes of the Chinmaya University for the Undergraduate and the Integrated Masters Programmes have commenced in July 2017. The University currently operates from two campuses: (1) The Chinmaya Eswar Gurukula in Kochi, Kerala, offers programmes in Sanskrit and Indic Traditions while (2) The Chinmaya Naada Bindu Gurukula in Pune, offers programmes in Indian Performing Arts. The programmes in both campuses offer the choice of onward in-depth study leading to PG and Ph.D level degrees and employment.
Growing the Dream
The main campus of the University is housed in Ernakulam, on the Chinmaya International Foundation (CIF) property, on a 10 acre land. However, this area is not sufficient for future growth trajectory of the University. The Chinmaya University has therefore prospected a new piece of land within Swami Chinmayananda’s home district, Ernakulam, a little away from the current facility, for establishing the larger world-class campus of Chinmaya University. The new campus will enable the university to develop appropriate infrastructure for:
- Academic blocks for different streams of study.
- Central Library that can accommodate learning resources for all streams of study.
- Hostel blocks for boys and girls that can accommodate student and faculty increase.
- Auditorium, Seminar Halls, Research Center for establishing inter-disciplinary research.
- Temple, Sports & Fitness areas, Dining spaces and Laundry facilities.
This larger campus will be attached to the headquarters that will continue to be at CIF, and will certainly meet the needs of the university’s main campus in the next 20-25 years.
Support and Partner
To support the purchase of the land, it will be most befitting for all lovers of Indian Knowledge Tradition and Votaries of Swami Chinmayananda’s vision of transformational education, to contribute their mite to this magnificent cause. To enable this, the university has devised a Bhudana scheme (‘donation of land unit’), where multiple donors can contribute amounts from their own sources, and participate collectively in this great project. Donors can donate for one unit or multiple units, with each unit valued at ₹1 lakh (for Indians) and US $1700 (for donors abroad). You may wish to donate in the name of a dear family member too. Here is an opportunity to make a difference to the entire paradigm of higher education while also restoring the lost traditions of India. Your philanthropy will touch the lives and hearts of the present and the future generations.
- Donations in India are eligible for exemption under Section 80 G of the Income Tax Act.
- Donations within USA are eligible for federal income tax exemption under Section 501 (c)(3).
