  • What is special about the university’s location?

    The main campus at Adi Sankara Nilayam is situated at the ancestral birth-home of the great philosopher-saint Adi Sankaracharya. The off-campus at Chinmaya Vibhooti is located at the vision centre for Swami Chinmayananda, the visionary spiritual education giant of India in the 20th century.

    Chinmaya University is a de novo category deemed university, uniquely positioned in blending Indian Knowledge Traditions (IKT) with modern day curricula enabling modern higher education in world-class pedagogy reinforced with the beauty of the Gurukula traditions of yore.   • What is Chinmaya University’s recognition?

    The name of the university is Chinmaya Vishwavidyapeeth (also called as Chinmaya University). It is notified by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, as a de-novo category deemed university under Section 3 of UGC Act 1956.

  • What is Chinmaya University’s accreditation?

    As this is a new university (de novo), the accreditation for its academic programmes by NAAC (National Academic Accreditation Council) and/or NBA (National Board of Accreditation) will occur after the first roll-out of graduates at the end of 3 years.

  • What is the Chinmaya University experience?

    Some of the methods through with Chinmaya Vishwavidyapeeth seeks to blend the Gurukula model of learning with the University methodology of teaching are as follows:

    • A classroom interaction that will be two-way rather enabling interactive learning
    • Use the enquiry method pedagogically both within the class room and the informal sessions
    • Encourage self-discovery of finer nuances of subjects or art-forms through own performance and self-inquiry, by not remaining regimented to the instructions of the teacher.
    • Taking the discussions beyond academics in informal small group discussions or performance theatres on wider topics: once a month/ fortnightly such as Multicultural India; Welcoming Diversity; Modernity; Gender; Innovations in Arts, etc. so that cultural values are examined in the present day context and imbibed.
    • Moving towards unity and upliftment through informal small group discussions on the spiritual path through such methods as readings from the works of Saints and Sages, Indian Psychology, Creativity of Maestros etc.
    • Entirely residential programmes facilitating the Gurukula experience blended with modern-day pedagogies.

  • What is the management team of Chinmaya University?

    The academic activities of Chinmaya University is controlled by a Management Board headed by the Vice Chancellor and consisting of expert academicians/ teachers/ trust representatives. The Board of Trustees is the highest body of the university and an Executive Council manages the administration activities across the campuses.

Admission to Chinmaya University

  • Where can I learn more about the University’s programmes?

  • What are the admission requirements for the University?

    Applicants must have completed their 10 + 2 education through any of the approved Secondary School Education Boards. Those seeking admission into Sanskrit programmes must have working knowledge of the Devanagri script. Those seeking admission to Performing Arts programmes must have completed atleast Madhyama Poorna or equivalent for 4 years as also clear audition tests prescribed by the university.   • What are the required scores/ marks for each programme?

  • May I submit letters of recommendation?

    Applicants may submit letters of recommendation, but admission process must be followed and grant of admission will be based on merit only.

  • What is the interview or audition process?

    Applying to the integrated Masters programmes offered at Chinmaya Naada Bindu Gurukula requires an audition, to give our instructors and faculty the chance to gauge your knowledge in the art.

  • Can we bridge the language requirement for the University?

    The students desiring to join Sanskrit programmes must have working knowledge of Devanagri script. All students will also undergo a Bridge Course prior to commencing their academic sessions in which they will also undergo Samksrita Sambhashanam (how to speak in Sanskrit) for 15 days. All Sanskrit programmes will be in Sanskrit and other subjects will be taught in English. Students will be enabled with language communication skills.

  • How can I track the status of my application?

    Students who are serious about pursuing education at the university will be emailed their login credentials through which they can fill-up, submit, track, amend, pay and conclude their application. Status of the applications will be put up on the university’s website.

  • What will I learn at the University?

    Academic programmes are established on four Foundational Principles – Spirituality, i.e., the curricula is conducive to the inner-refinement and self-unfoldment of the individual; Purity, i.e., focus on deriving knowledge from the source without any dilution or conditioning; Practicality, i.e., the courses are structured to make Indian knowledge traditions applicable in modern day; and Innovation, i.e., the programmes foster innovative thinking in the students through creative teaching methodology and research.

    Any degree programme at Chinmaya University, is divided into three parts. Foundation, Major, and Minor courses. The Foundation courses are common to all Chinmaya University students, and ensure all students imbibe the knowledge sets that will set them apart through inner-refinement and self-unfoldment. The Major courses provide students with the core of their degree programme, bringing them to a world-class standard of knowledge in their chosen area of specialisation. Finally, the Minor courses add key passion driven skill-sets that differentiate the degrees offered at each campus and allow a student to personalize their programme. Proficiency enhancing courses and Life transformation courses add a blend of uniqueness to the knowledge and personality of the students.

  • Does the University conduct summer school sessions?

    Yes. A summer school is conducted on campus each summer on a specific topic relating to Indic Knowledge Traditions. Experts in the field are invited to take courses, and both theoretical and practical considerations of the topic will be covered. These courses can be used to fulfil university credit. These courses will be launched only from the Summer of 2018.

  • Can I design my own degree?

    Chinmaya University encourages using the Choice Based Credit System developed by the University Grants Commission (UGC) very strongly. In keeping with its academic philosophy, the university encourages students to develop their own degree content.   • What can I do after I have graduated?

    Many opportunities exist in various fields for graduates of Chinmaya University. Those with degrees in Indic Knowledge Traditions or Shastra Studies can continue on fields such as Teaching, Management, Linguistics, Sanskrit, Philosophy and others. Graduates with degrees in the Fine Arts can continue into Teaching, Music Theory, Composition, and Fine Arts fields, among many other options.
