When our faculty at Chinmaya Eswar Gurukula discovered that Mahamahopadhyaya Dr. Mani Dravid Sastrigal was on campus at the Chinmaya International Foundation, they jumped at the opportunity to have him address faculty and students. This learned vidvan has been referred to as among the greatest scholars of shaastra in India today.
Dr. Mani Dravid graciously agreed to address faculty and students in Sanskrit on one single phrase of the 4th mantra in the 1st chapter of the Kenopanishad: अन्यदेव तद्विदितादथोअविदितादधि । इति शुश्रुम पूर्वेषां येनस्तद्व्याचचक्षिरे | – “It (The Truth) is different from the known; It is beyond the unknown. Thus we have heard from the wise teachers of old who taught It to us”.
In soothing, lucid Sanskrit, Dr. Mani Dravid enlightened those present on how this line homes is on the utter inexplicability and incomprehensibility of Brahman when we use the senses or the mind-intellect to “see” It.
Rare are such shrotriya and rarer still is the opportunity to listen to such a master.
