Prof. Venkata Raghavan did his graduation in Electronics Engineering (from Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad, now IIT-Dhanbad) and worked as a software engineer for 3 years. However, being  more interested in the deeper questions of life on the one hand and in exploring the depths of Indian culture on the other, he did his M.A in Philosophy from the Department of Philosophy, University of Hyderabad, where he was trained mainly in Analytic Philosophy of the 20th century.

His PhD work is in the area of Philosophy of Language. He is attempting to work out a theory of figurative meaning based on the works of Mammaṭa Bhaṭṭa. His exposure to Western and Indian modes of thought allows him to maintain a critical eye towards both. The other areas which he is interested in are Philosophy of Art, History of Indian Philosophy and methodological issues in studying Indian Philosophy.
